The Moral Lab was designed by Kornelia Dimitrova and Bernard Lenger, with the support of Foundation We Are. The research tool was developed in collaboration with Dr Bart Wernaart, a researcher in ethics at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. During the 9 days of Dutch Design Week 2019 the Moral Lab welcomed more than 700 visitors.

Moral Lab

Spatial research tool. 2019.

The Moral Lab Experience is a spatial research tool that collects ethical data. The research tool unfolds as a facility for training algorithms, where the visitors advise personal digital assistants in making ethical choices.
The Moral Lab experience brings visitors into the world of algorithms, by showing how they 'think' when making decisions for us. Each visitor has the opportunity to enter one of the training facilities and have a private immersive session with the AI. As the AI asks for the visitor’s advice, it also collects data about what this visitor thinks about specific moral issues.
