production + parts 2: juvet hotel detail.

The building we chose is Juvet Landscape Hotel, architecturally it is a meeting between the raw Norwegian nature, cultural history and modern architecture. I conducted this practical research in collaboration with Anastasia Bordian and Anna Igumnova. Over all, the journey we underwent, through the course and the studied building, have proven to be deeply interesting and enriching for us, as well as very enjoyable. We are quite happy to have managed to capture the building’s essence in our work - elegance and neatness. Exploring that theme was also our main motive for our choice for a building.
It was interesting to follow the construction sequence and to reverse-engineer the parts that were not clarified enough by the visual or verbal materials the architects provided us with. It made us think, firstly by stepping in the shoes of another architect and secondly in a reversed order – starting from the final outcome and shedding layers to arrive to the core. The process made us feel as if we were reconstructing the whole building, not just a small part, on one side probably because we really sunk our teeth into the building and learnt its every secret, or at least had a very well argumented guess about it. But from another side, because the detail we were recreating holds in itself a bit of everything that makes the building what it is.
Probably the most interesting thing that will stay with me in future is the understanding that the built result and the crisp technical details could have visually less in common, than anticipated. The construction process in, my perception, takes its own path, only referring to the technical drawings for guidance, but in reality it is just as much affected by our touch in the process of making as by the intended technical design.
